The MISSION of the Old Guard Riders is to initiate, sponsor, promote, execute and support activities which HONOR and SUPPORT America's veterans, and to use such activities as a means to EDUCATE the American public about veterans and the issues that affect them. As members of the Old Guard Riders, our respect for America's men and women in uniform, past and present, is not just lip service. We are actively engaged in honoring and supporting America's veterans. Operation Care Operation Care is a very specific aspect of the Old Guard Rider Mission to honor and support our veterans. It touches at the very heart of what it means to honor a veteran. It begs the question, "Do you truly respect and appreciate the service and sacrifice of America's veterans enough to sacrifice the time and effort, and possibly the inconvenience, to give something meaningful back to them?" I am not talking about just money. I am talking about giving them your undivided time and attention, one on one, when they need it. And when does someone need your time and attention more than when they are ill, aging or disabled. Operation Care is an organized effort to regularly visit ill, aging and disabled veterans in hospitals, nursing homes, VA facilities and other institutions where veterans reside. Operation Care is not a whirlwind 300 patient visit in 30 minutes or less. Operation Care is a one-on-one, "I really care" visit with ill, aging or disabled veterans that lasts as long as possible and truly conveys a message of honor, appreciation and concern.
The Old Guard Riders, in conjunction with The Sisterhood, is currently working to establish a regularly monthly Operation Care day at various hospitals, nursing homes and VA facilities. The establishment of a fixed monthly Operation Care day will make it easier for everyone to plan well ahead.
