If a child lives with criticism, he learns
to condemn. Our children are the future of this great nation. They will carry the baton of America forward as we gradually pass it off. How our children carry that baton largely depends on the tools and education that we provide for them today. We focus on institutional education and the mental skills that they will need to become successful adults. Reading, writing, math and science are critical aspects of our children's education. But there is another aspect of their education that is equally important. One that can not be taught by institutional education alone. Our children must learn the highest qualities of human character, such as honesty, courage, perseverance, self discipline, responsibility, integrity, caring, respect, trustworthiness, fairness, citizenship, patriotism, and justice. The Old Guard Riders would like to thank all of the youth organizations across America who work tirelessly to instill the highest qualities of human character into the lives of our children. Thank you! Old Guard Riders Inc. endeavors to actively contribute to the positive experiences of our youth through a program called Operation Education. Through Operation Education, youth organizations and other groups are invited to join the Old Guard Riders as we carry out programs to assist America's veterans. Members of the youth organization participate alongside Old Guard Riders members at hospitals, VA facilities, nursing homes and other institutions where veterans reside. The youth are encouraged to interact with the veterans, taking advantage of the opportunity to discuss the veteran's life and military experiences and how those life experiences were affected by the veteran's core human values. By doing so, the youth can experience firsthand how human core values directly affected the life of the veteran in either positive and uplifting ways or resulted in difficult lessons to be learned. By interacting with veterans, the youth may gain a greater understanding of the United States military and those who serve, as well as a greater understanding of quality human values in situations, such as combat, that are seldom experienced by the average American citizen. All Operation Education activities are carefully chaperoned by Old Guard Rider staff, and youth organization chaperones are encouraged to attend. A parental waiver to participate is required for every minor youth present.
